Child Safeguarding Policy

Safety & Dignity

Our Safeguarding Commitment

ADOPT Initiative is deeply committed to protecting the safety, dignity, privacy, and well-being of children and adolescents involved in our programmes. Because our work engages young people in underserved communities, public secondary schools, and juvenile correctional centres, safeguarding is embedded at every level of our operations.

Core Principle

Every adolescent has the absolute right to be protected from harm, exploitation, stigma, and unauthorized exposure, regardless of their background, legal status, gender, or socio-economic circumstance.

1. Protection of Vulnerable Adolescents & Correctional Centre Participants

We exercise heightened care regarding adolescents in correctional centres and highly vulnerable environments:

  • We do not publish identifying personal information (full legal names, case details, or direct facial portraits) of adolescents in juvenile correctional facilities.
  • Where we share authentic beneficiary reflections, we protect the individual’s privacy using our standard protocol: “Identity withheld to protect the participant’s privacy.”
  • All educational and vocational masterclasses within correctional institutions are conducted with the approval of facility welfare administrators and adhere strictly to institutional safety guidelines.

2. Photography, Media & Storytelling Ethics

Photographs and stories shared on our website and social channels serve solely to document our educational impact and transparently report on community outreaches:

  • Photographs of minors in secondary schools are captured in structured group settings during educational seminars and workshops.
  • Images are selected to portray young people with dignity, respect, and agency—never in a sensationalized or compromising manner.
  • For adult volunteers, staff, and speakers whose names and photographs are published, explicit permission has been obtained.

3. Volunteer & Staff Code of Conduct

Every volunteer, facilitator, and partner engaging in ADOPT Initiative field outreaches must adhere to strict behavioural standards:

  • Maintain professional, respectful, and encouraging relationships with all adolescent participants.
  • Ensure that mentoring sessions occur in open, visible, and designated group spaces.
  • Refrain from unapproved private contact, unmonitored digital communication, or individual solicitation with adolescent participants.
